Appointment at Coachcraft by MacDonald – the Wanderlodge Wizards
I had to wait almost four months, but the day has arrived to drop my Wanderlodge off with a team of folks that specialize in caring for these vintage coaches. In particular John Boy, the shop manager, was very kind to spend so much time with me talking about the coach and performing a detailed inspection. As I left we agreed that they would provide a detailed list of all safety and reliability issues within a few days. I can turn my own wrenches but I just don’t have the time anymore. I told them take their time with the coach, I am in no hurry, getting it back by mid July would be fine. I would rather they help folks that are full-timers with emergency issues and perform work on my coach when they have time, a win-win for both of us.
My own personal list of suspected items:
1) Panhard bushing replacement
2) Steering box rebuild / inspect PS pump and lines that are weeping
3) Replace Koni shocks
4) Replace all airbags, needed or not
5) Replace any non silicone hoses
6) Look at Perkins generator weeping injector
7) Check all braking systems
8) Chase any air leaks for me
As I pull into the fenced yard I see a dozen or more other coaches with folks sitting outside on lawn chairs, turns out it is a social club of sorts, everyone having work done. Many far more expensive newer coaches but my older 1983 FC always draws a crowd, today was no exception. Everyone came over to look at my rig and provided stories about how great the folks were at Coachcraft. I am told they will all watch over it for me, one of the folks even sent me the above image a week or so later, great to be part of the Wanderlodge family!
